Today the Church celebrates the Feast of Pentecost. In today’s gospel, Saint John writes, “Jesus said to them…“Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you…he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit….” Last Sunday, my new-born niece was baptized into the Catholic Church. At that time, she received the Holy Spirit for the first time. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the child becomes “…an adopted son/daughter of God…and a temple of the Holy Spirit.”
As parents and godparents of those children in our spiritual care, we must nourish and encourage them in their faith. We must help them to grow in their love for God and for all humankind by bringing them to mass and making sure they attend religious education classes. Children watch the adults in their life and learn by the example of parents and relatives. Children are the future of our world. What type of example are you setting for the…

Lord,
As you know there has been an issue with my brother's wife sister. She decided she did not want to be a mother any longer and allowed DSS to take her three children. The family is seeking custody of the children and the Grandmother wants the oldest boys and the my brother and his wife are seekign to get the two year old boy. They were told that they would have a better chance getting the 2 year old. They are a close family so the boys would still be raised together. My brother and his wife have no children of their own, but love the children and do not want to see them put into the system. The children were taken Tuesday May 14 and they have a hearing to attend June 19. My brother and his wife cannot sleep. They are so worried for the children. They do not know what type of homes they are in or if they are being kindly cared for. The two year old was crying for my brother and it breaks his heart that he was not able to do anything. Please Lord, allow the family to be…

From the moment I read the opening commentary from Pope Urban VII on private revelations, I knew I was in for something special. Each of the author's personal accounts (peira) are beautifully conveyed in a style which will leave even the most pious reader feeling unworthy to eavesdrop on these intimate revelations.
The pure reverence and humility in which these accounts are presented filled me with hope, and softened my natural scrutiny of the extraordinary. After reading the touching forward remarks and witnessing the author's devotion to The Feast of the Father of All Mankind, I knew there was clearly something special within these pages. I was surprised and delighted to have this peace of mind early on, as it allowed me to enjoy the gifts of this book without distraction. And what gifts they turned out to…

Saint John wrote in his gospel, “Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me.” Faith is a precious gift from God to each one of us and is not to be taken lightly. In order for it to grow stronger, faith must be nourished with the reception of the Holy Eucharist.
Through the Eucharist, our faith develops and we build a more mature and fulfilling relationship with God. This happens if we fully understand and contemplate the fact that it is Jesus who we are receiving at Holy Communion. It is Jesus, the Son of God, who comes to you at this time and fills you with His life and love. Saint John Chrysostom wrote of the Eucharist, “It is not man that causes the things offered to become the Body and Blood of Christ, but He who was crucified for us, Christ himself. The priest, in the role of Christ, pronounces these words, but their power and grace are God’s.”
